ASMEC Advanced Surface Mechanics GmbH
The ASMEC (Advanced Surface Mechanics) GmbH was founded in 2003 by Dr. Thomas Chudoba as a spin-off from the institute of physics of the University of Technology Chemnitz.
Many years of experience in the field of mechanical surface properties and contact mechanics ensure competence and a scientific approach to measurements, modelling and optimization of coatings and coated systems for the mechanical improvement of surfaces.
ASMEC GmbH develops and manufactures hardware and software as well as services in the field of surface mechanics. Customized options in order to meet customer demands are our specialty.
Specific experiences guarantee the correct mechanical characterization of thin films in a thickness range of a few mm down to 4.3 nm which is world record
(see T. Chudoba et al., “Young’s modulus measurements on ultra-thin coatings”, Journal of Material Research 19 (2004), 301-314).
Another focus is micro-tribology with a very high force and displacement resolution. Therefore, ASMEC has developed a special lateral force unit (LFU) which allows the measurement of lateral forces and displacements with the same resolution as normal nanoindentation.
