The nanoplus GmbH was created in 1998 as a spin-off from the department of Technical Physics of Würzburg University.
Its main activity is to transfer research results into applications and products, with a specialisation in optoelectronics devices and customer specific micro-nanostructuring. 15 employees are currently working in nanoplus.

The company is well equipped with a complete process line for semiconductor laser fabrication, comprising different dry etch systems, sputter systems, evaporators, mask aligners, laser mounting facilities, etc. in 250 m² of clean room facilities (class 100-10000).

The company also has 120 m² of laboratory space for technical supply (high purity gases, water preparation). The key products of nanoplus are complex coupled distributed feedback lasers, which are fabricated with nanoplus' own unique technology. DFB lasers realised by this technique have a high single mode yield, high efficiencies as well as high side mode suppression ratio >40db) combined with low back reflection sensitivity and thresholds.

The technology developed in the last years does not require overgrowth and is applicable to a wide variety of semiconductors including GaSb, InP and GaAs based materials. Based on these material systems, nanoplus produces DFB and Fabry-Perot laser diodes in the wavelength range from 0.7 up to 2.5 µm for sensing and spectroscopic applications.

Furthermore nanoplus fabricates Quantum Cascade Lasers in the wavelength range from 5 µm up to 12 µm.
