PharmaSol GmbH

PharmaSol has exclusive nanoparticulate technologies for application in the area of pharmaceutical delivery systems and cosmetics (main activity areas). At the same time these nanoparticulate carriers can also be applied to food additives, functional food, textile fibre surface modification and agriculture (e. g. controlled release of pesticides).
The two main technologies are the drug nanocrystals and the nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC®). Drug nanocrystals (Nanopure®) are superfine particles of poorly soluble drugs. A traditional approach to improve the oral bioavailability is micronisation. However, micronisation is not sufficient for many of the new drugs because their solubility is so low. Therefore the consequent next step after micronisation was nanonisation. The drug nanocrystals improve oral bioavailability because they are adhesive, they adhere to the gut wall. Due to the large surface area, the drug dissolves fast and is taken up by the blood. In addition, drug nanocrystals in aqueous suspension (nanosuspensions) can be injected intravenously.
Lipids are known to promote the absorption of many drugs. Therefore oral bioavailability enhancement can be achieved by incorporating poorly water soluble drugs into lipid nanoparticles, the so called nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC). The NLC possess a controlled nanostructering of the particle matrix, thus leading to increased drug loading and modulation of the release profile.
The PharmaSol nanoparticulate technologies are characterised that in general all the excipients used are of accepted status by the regulatory authorities. All nanoparticles can be produced on large industrial scale by using the low cost high pressure homogenization technology.
