Center for Applied Nanotechnology (CAN) GmbH
The Center for Applied Nanotechnology (CAN) GmbH offers contract research and development services in the field of nanotechnology to companies and research institutions alike. Additionally we participate in national and international research programs. Our activities in particular are focused on the utilization of new concepts in chemical nanotechnology and nanoanalysis especially in the following fields of application: energy (components of solar and fuel cells), life sciences (diagnostic agents) and home and personal care (additives for cosmetics, detergents, specialty polymers). Our main expertise is on the production of various nanoparticulate and nanocomposite material like fluorescent, magnetic, conductive, X-ray opaque, metallic, and ceramic nanocrystals. Furthermore, we gained expert knowledge in the development of tailor-made polymers and thickener systems.
Through our close association with universities and research institutions in the Metropolitan region of Hamburg, CAN GmbH has access to a large regional network of internationally outstanding scientists in nanoscience, nanotechnology and life science as well as to an excellent, state-of-the art portfolio of instruments.
We are looking for partners and collaborators for the development and design of future products based on our indepth knowledge in the field of nanotechnology. Our nanoparticle products are marketed under the label CANdots® readily available for applications in research and industry. The establishment of CAN GmbH in 2005 as a Public Private Partnership created the structure needed to allow professional processing of R & D projects in close cooperation with universities and industry alike. CAN GmbH was founded as a joint venture by the Free and Hansestadt Hamburg, the University of Hamburg and wellknown industrial enterprises. Among the members of this institutional association, which is open to other companies, are Beiersdorf AG, Eppendorf AG, Merck KGaA, Bosch GmbH, Bode Chemie GmbH and DESY as well as the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the Hamburger Sparkasse.
